When I first dropped the girls off on Monday, Evie seemed a bit overwhelmed. It was a lot of people with volunteers and kids all meeting in the social hall to start the day. But I think she quickly learned how much fun she was going to have :) (Layla, on the other hand cried the entire time she and I walked to the car saying, "I need Evie.".....she was not a big fan of leaving Big Sis).
Evie loved learning all the new songs and I enjoyed listening to the girls sing along to the CD I purchased. I think she also enjoyed the "Kings Kitchen" where she got to make fun snacks (such as a cross) from marshmallows, skittles, etc....and all things sugary she doesn't usually get.
I loved our conversations at dinner this last week where she told Mike and I about how Nehemiah built a wall or how she told us that God and family and friends help us stand strong. I also got a smile one night while I was making dinner........she and Layla were doing some puzzles on the floor in the living room and out of the blue I heard Evie say, "Layla can you please be quiet, can't you see I'm trying to pray."
On the last day of VBS, families were invited to join them for the last 45 minutes for a picnic lunch, a review of the kids week and a performance from the kids. I was excited to join Evie and very proud of all that she has learned during the week!
And below is a compilation of the video I took during the performance.....but two quick side notes:
a) the video is about 14 minutes long since it's clips of al the songs they learned
b) I apologize for some of the shakiness in the video (I had a squirmy 2 year old trying to sit on my nonexistent lap while I was videoing)
The kids also brought change, dollars, etc. to pour into a bucket for their group. (The money was going to be used to purchase TV's for the Parish School of Religion.) The group who brought in the most money would get to throw a pie in the face of a "special guest."
The special guest ended up being our head priest, Father Brian.
The kids all enjoyed it....Evie was mesmerized by the goggles and also covered her eyes when they threw the pie. Layla couldn't figure it out and the entire drive home kept talking about how "he was messy" and "got pie in his eye"
Overall I think VBS was a great experience for my sweet girl! I'm really proud of her and I love all the things she learned about Jesus and God during the week!
