We are a simple family of four. We try to make the most out of this journey called life. My husband was born in a small town in New Mexico and I in a small town in Kansas, yet we met in Houston and began our lives together there. After five years of marriage we relocated to Atlanta. We have three beautiful daughters and a crazy black lab! We may take ourselves on some crazy adventures at times but we know we have our faith, our love for each other, and our family that will get us through anything!

"Gingerbread" Nativity

Last year I saw this adorable idea to make a gingerbread nativity instead of a gingerbread house.  I decided to try it out with the girls yesterday.   We went to the store and bought some gumdrops, black licorice, graham crackers, frosting, and tootsie rolls (I had some coconut and large marshmallows at home).   Then we made our creation.  They are still a little young to actually make the items and Evie wanted me to make most of them.  She did help spreading some of the frosting and sprinkling our (coconut) hay as well as place the items where they should be.  I let her help decide where everything should go and what color of gumdrops for the people.

....and of course sampling was required as well!

getting it started....the manger and the stable!

Placing the angle on top!  (Well I'm still trying to convince her it's an Angle and not a fairy:)

Putting baby Jesus in the manger!

And I love hearing Layla say, "Baby Jesus born mommy!"

This year Evie has been very fascinated by the staffs the shepards and Joseph are holding.  She thought we needed to have some as well....fortunately toothpicks worked for her:)

Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and some giant sheep:)

Evie also said, "We need to make a star for the wisemen to follow" so we did our best at cutting a yellow gumdrop to create a star.

Once we were finished with it, Evie said, "Mommy I need to show it to Paula because Santa said we need to teach her about Jesus and when he was born!"  Here she is explaining everything to our elf!

We just might have to make this one of our annual traditions!
