We are a simple family of four. We try to make the most out of this journey called life. My husband was born in a small town in New Mexico and I in a small town in Kansas, yet we met in Houston and began our lives together there. After five years of marriage we relocated to Atlanta. We have three beautiful daughters and a crazy black lab! We may take ourselves on some crazy adventures at times but we know we have our faith, our love for each other, and our family that will get us through anything!

My Bookworm!

Over the last several weeks Layla has discovered she has unlimited access to the books on the shelves near our living room.  I love finding her by the shelves pulling off books and looking through them.  She has a few favorites, including a simple Skippy John Jones book and Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb.  I love watching her figure out how to open the books, turn the pages, and showing such interest in familiar books!  She's even starting to "fill in the blank" if I pause when reading her favorite books!  Of course this melts a speech path mommy's heart!!!

Trying to decide which one to read!

Reading books!

I love the photo below for two reasons.  One is of course the obvious....seeing these two girls snuggled with their daddy during their special night time routine with him!  The second is, when I was pregnant with Evie and teaching a class at The Parish School, a mother of one of my student's gave me one of the sweetest baby gifts.  She bought several new books that were her daughter's favorites as a small child.  She took time to write in the front cover of each one......something related to the book and her daughter.  I don't think she realizes how much I cherish these books AND how every time before I read them with my girls I take the time to read what she wrote.  (So yes, take note if any of you have a child whose teacher is pregnant....this is a wonderful gift idea:0)  In the book, in this picture...Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb she had written it was her daughter's favorite and her copy looked 100 years old and hoped we enjoyed it as much as her daughter did!  Well....seeing that part of the side is torn and the binding is loose, and the edges worn....this book was indeed Evie's first favorite book and now it is Layla's.  It is getting a TON of reading time!  There is just something about the rhythmic pattern of the words combined with the bright colors in the book contrasting with the silly monkey faces that make it so intriguing for young minds!  (Thank you Amy....if you are reading this I hope you will now have some idea how much theses books me to me:0)

Here is Layla "reading" her Skippy John Jones book!  (You can pause the music on my playlist on the right hand to hear the video).
