We are a simple family of four. We try to make the most out of this journey called life. My husband was born in a small town in New Mexico and I in a small town in Kansas, yet we met in Houston and began our lives together there. After five years of marriage we relocated to Atlanta. We have three beautiful daughters and a crazy black lab! We may take ourselves on some crazy adventures at times but we know we have our faith, our love for each other, and our family that will get us through anything!

What's in a name?

There seemed to be so much pressure deciding on a name for our girls.  And I felt like it became harder with each girl.  Mike and I both agreed we like family names and then we put a lot of thought into the meaning of the names too!

Evie's name (Evelyn Jane) is a strong family name.  Evelyn was my grandmother's name and Jane was my aunt's name.  Also, Evelyn means "wished for child" which seemed so very appropriate since we had wished for her for three years before our dream came true!

Layla's middle name, Michelle, comes from her daddy "Michael" and my sister Michelle.  And Layla means "night or dark beauty"....I just knew I would have another little brown-eyed beauty with a dark complexion.  It fits her perfectly!  (Some sources say it means "born at night") which is also true for her!

So then it came time to name our third princess.  We wanted to use a family name in some form and we wanted it to blend with the other girls' names.  To me, Evelyn and Layla or more classic names so I was hoping to stay with a similar feel.  (You know a name where someone says, oh that was my grandmother's name).

So we finally came up with a list and narrowed it down from there!

When we first looked at our list, Stella stood out for both of us...but we weren't completely settled yet.  However, we kept coming across Stella in some form and it just seemed it was meant to be her name.

(And no we aren't Marlon Brando fans and she is not named after A Street Car Named Desire).  Although, it is pretty cute hearing her big sis emulate the famous scene:

For example, one day after we made this list (we hadn't said any of the names to Evie or Layla), I let the girls get a happy meal.  (We typically don't eat fast food but after a big trip to the grocery store too close to lunch time and a tired mama in her third trimester while hubby is completing his EMBA while working full time was a good excuse).  Anyway, the toy the girls got were fairies and Evie's fairy was named Stella.  When I told the girls the names of their fairies, Evie said, "Maybe we should name the baby Stella!"  (Again, I had not mentioned the name Stella to her at all!)

And one other disclaimer:  I have no idea what the cartoon/show featuring these fairies, but I don't want to know if Stella is not a good character on the show :)

Then when Mike was in Belgium for his EMBA program, he drank a lot of this:

And then at Evie's birthday party one of the little girl's dad showed up in this shirt (and I'm sure he doesn't even know it :).   And the other ironic part is, Mike actually has this exact same shirt and we had never even noticed it said Stella on it until Mike realized it at Evie's party.

After looking up the meaning of the names as well, we found Stella means "star."  I have a feeling that although she has two big sisters, Stella is going to be a star in her own form!

We also came up with Stella Anne, because "Ann" is both my mom's (Grandma Sheryl) and Mike's mom's (Grandma Patty) middle name.  We thought it was a perfect fit!

So that is where her name comes from.....and I can't wait to see what the future holds for our little star!
