We are a simple family of four. We try to make the most out of this journey called life. My husband was born in a small town in New Mexico and I in a small town in Kansas, yet we met in Houston and began our lives together there. After five years of marriage we relocated to Atlanta. We have three beautiful daughters and a crazy black lab! We may take ourselves on some crazy adventures at times but we know we have our faith, our love for each other, and our family that will get us through anything!

First night in our house!

On the first Sunday we were in Atlanta, we took my dad to the airport to fly back to Kansas.  We decided to stay in our house that night.  The floors were dry by then and the movers were already in Atlanta and were going to be ready to start unloading early on Monday morning.  We had Evie's pack 'n' play and an air mattress with us so I figured I could easily manage one night on the air mattress!

Well.........during the night on Sunday it started to snow and by morning it had rained on top of it.  This of course resulted in an icy mess.  You can imagine in a city that is not used to this type of weather the chaos it created.  It seemed as if the city was shut down for 2-3 days.  It honestly wasn't a bad storm....I"ve seen much worse in Kansas......but the city is just not equipped to handle it......and I wouldn't trust the other drivers on the road either!

So.......needless to say.......our one night on the air mattress turned into three.  Thankfully we also had toys Evie had received for Christmas to keep her entertained in our empty house.  And anticipating the possibility of the storm we had borrowed a cooler from my cousin and stalked it with some milk, sandwich meat, cheese, fruit, etc.  Mike and I had said when we got to Atlanta we needed to relax and spend some time together as a family after all the craziness of the move.  Well.....spending three nights and days in a virtually empty house without the ability to get out wasn't exactly what we had in mind, but on the bright side we did get to spend a lot of quality time together:0)

By Wednesday our mover, who had driven from Michigan and was stuck in a hotel 20 minutes from our house, was wanting get our belongings to us.  He still wasn't able to drive his truck all the way to our house because of ice remaining on the hilly, ice-covered roads.  So he parked in a small strip center as close as possible and rented a large u-haul.  They transferred our belongings from the big truck to the u-haul and then to our house to be unloaded.  The third and final load was smaller/lighter than the other two and by this time it was getting dark again......and the luck had run out......it got stuck on the top of the hill about 50 feet from the entrance to our subdivision.  Ugh!  After using a bag of salt we had bought, digging out the ice with a shovel, and attempting to put some of the moving blankets on the road, he finally made it through and was able to deliver our remaining furniture.   By the time they were finished it was almost 9:00 at night and were tired and ready to be finished.   After a final inventory check, of course we realized we were missing one of our kitchen table chairs.......and yes, it was left in the back of the truck that was parked at the strip center.  The mover had to return the u-haul and we really didn't want Mike to go and get it and take a chance of getting stuck on the ice in the dark.  So we had the mover place it by a dumpster at the strip center and Mike went to get it in the morning......low and behold it was still there!   (You will know you are special if you get to sit on our dumpster chair when you come to visit:0)

doesn't everyone anticipate their master bedroom looking like this?

Evie and daddy in the snow......it was actually deeper than it looks in the picture....it had ice on top so they were walking on top of it!

Mommy and Evie in the snow!

The Atlanta way of clearing ice from the roads:0(  Our street has a pretty good sized hill after our house and down to the bottom of the cul-de-sac.  Since the road was covered with ice, those who lived at the bottom of the hill had no way of getting in or out of their house in a vehicle.  So they all worked together with blowers, picks, and shovels and literally cleared the road on their own!  Mike went to help them for a while and through questions and discussion from the neighbors ended up telling them about our movers not being able to get to our house.  Before we knew it they were hard at work and our driveway and front side walk was completely cleared as well!
